Bess and Phil Leichtweis are both natives of Cheyenne, Wyoming and together they have three children and three grand-children.

After spending 15 years in nursing, Bess decided her life needed a new direction and she became interested in stained glass. She took her first stained glass class from Robert “Hank” Day at Laramie County Community College in 1989 and fell in love with it. After making many pieces of glass for herself, family and, friends, she quickly ran out of places to display her work but still had the desire to continue making more products.

Phil (formerly an optician) became interested in what she was doing and began taking classes himself. In 1991 they registered the trade name “Sunsational Glass Art” and began selling small pieces at local "arts & crafts" shows. In the mid 1990’s Bess went to work for her mentors, Hank & Mary Jo Day, at their retail store “First Glass Images”.

Bess is involved with Glass Artists of Wyoming and usually enters a piece in their annual stained glass show at the Botanical Gardens. She made one of the panels in a large window that was donated to the Laramie County Library by the Glass Artists Club. Additionally, she donated a stained glass stepping stone to the Botanical Gardens in Lions Park.

The business has evolved into what it is today where the two of them still display their products at "arts & crafts" shows in the Cheyenne, Laramie, and Torrington areas of Southeast Wyoming and occasionally in Fort Collins, Colorado. They do custom work and Bess teaches lessons and makes repairs when possible.
